Revlon Colorburst mini haul

27Apr10

I know I'm supposed to be studying now for my paper tmr but I'm too excited!

it's been a while since I last stepped into Watson's - by a while I mean like a week ago. so I was so excited to see the new Revlon lipstick range for myself! I thought it was just brought in today until my bff pointed out that Heavenlygorgeous mentioned it before in one of her last week's entry here.

I've ever mentioned before of how I love the pigmentation and staying power of Revlon's lipsticks, but none of the colours seem to jump out at me. well that was before they brought in the Revlon Colorburst series! they have 8 colours and I seem to love atleast 5 of the tones! they are retailing at a launch price of $21.90 each. I have no idea if this price will go up once the launching period is over.

anyway, I bought two of it!

to me, this has got to be the prettiest packaging that Revlon has came up with thus far with their lipsticks. the lipstick itself is also engraved with the brand's name, pretty much like Chanel's lipsticks.

time for swatches!

Soft Nude on lips [please excuse by untouched up face, just got back home from school!]

I've always wanted a nude lippie and this is only my second one! I'm always worried that I'll look pale and sickly with nudes. but this Revlon's one is a soft nude colour with a peachy pink undertone so it's not like a dead nude. I'm not totally comfortable with nude lipsticks yet though. I find that it makes me look tanner, yet pale at the same time.

Fuchsia on lips. A nice fun, party colour!

and just for the fun of it, I layered Fuchsia on top of Soft Nude.

I am a little heartbroken though. I kinda swatched the lipstick too hard on the back of my hand causing the it to lean a little to one side, so when I swirled it back to close it, it scraped through the sides. so now it looks semi-retarded :(

the lipsticks are really pigmented, generally matte and less moisturizing than Maybelline lipsticks. don't get me wrong, it does provide moisture to the lips but it doesn't have that watery feel which most Maybelline lipsticks give - which is NOT a good thing because Maybelline lipsticks gets wiped off faster that way. I haven't used these long enough to give an extensive review. till I've got something note-worthy to say then!

and just smtg extra!

Watson's brought in the Maybelline Gel Liner in Eggplant! it usually only has Black and Brown. the Eggplant however is a limited edition. it was in my wishlist last month till I found out that they don't bring in this colour in Singapore. but now that it's available, I don't think I want it anymore :p it's priced at $19.90. the Black and Brown ones are at a offer price of $15.90 currently though! I already have both and I've been wearing them everyday! promotion ends this month :)

thanks for reading!

Maybelline Angel Fit Foundation and Revlon Pressed Powder

02Apr10

omg third entry of the day, but the first of review!

this I've got to say, for me, Revlon's compact powder is way better than Maybelline's by tenfolds! remember I was raving about the Maybelline Angelfit 2-way cake in this entry? I've been using it for a little over 2 months now and I find that it does clog up my pores unlike what its packaging says. I don't have sensitive or difficult skin, so the fact that it clogs up my pores leads me to believe that it may clog up the pores of most people too.

first of all, I feel that the powder does not set on my face naturally. to counter that, I tried using it with a wet sponge, but it made my face look cakey instead. so it's a neither-here-nor-there thing with this product. it also makes my pores and dry skin around my nose area more visible when the powder is applied. I actually didn't realise how bad it was till I switched to revlon's pressed powder which I bought last week.

it's only a pressed powder ($19.90) but it already does so much wonders as compared to the costlier Maybelline Angelfit 2-way cake ($25.90). it conceals my pores and after frequent use, it actually does help to minimise the appearance of pores even without the powder on. I bought mine in Medium (there are 3 tones to pick from) and the tone really blends with my natural skin tone. it also helps to keep the skin looking and feeling matte without it looking unflatteringly cakey.

but to each her own, if you prefer more natural looks with the powder setting on ur face like a second skin, go for revlon! I'm not saying that the other Maybelline foundations aren't good, but the Angelfit 2-way cake is a definite no-second-buy for me. the Pore Zero Base is still my fave item from Maybelline that is a must, must get :)

I have the Revlon Pressed Powder on in this picture. I didn't apply any makeup base underneath at all, just Hazeline snow moisturizer and E.l.f Tinted Moisturizer. the combo works wonders! it left my skin matte all day :)

and the bf makes his appearance here, haha sorry if it's distracting but it will look weird if I crop my face and have an arm sticking out of my cheek :p

RAVE-LON Hauls

29Mar10

I'm currently on a Revlon-purchasing rampage ever since I bought this.

Revlon Age Defying Spa Concealer.

I got mine in tone 003.

comes with a built-in brush applicator.

if u remember me mentioning about a good concealer that helps to conceal dark circles in the entry before this, this is the concealer I was referring to! Initially, I wanted to get the one in a red pot, yes the one in the picture below (taken online), but drugstores don't seem to sell them anymore. either that or Revlon doesn't manufacture this anymore?

the reason why it's called Spa Concealer is because the product consists of stone therapy minerals, vitamin C and antioxidants that energize and revitalizes the skin (Revlon.com).

it's not the reason why I bought it, neither was the "age defying" component, but because the colour is salmon-coloured more than the usual yellowish tones of most concealers I've tried. so in that sense, this makes a better concealer for bluish dark circles and it doesn't cause creasing like the ZA Concealer Perfection I've always been using.

if it still creases around ur laugh lines, use a moisturizer or a face primer :) works for me since my skin tends to dry out and form cracks around my eye area.

considering I have really bad eye bags/dark circles, especially when I smile or laugh, and this concealer does help to conceal majority of it, I give it the thumbs up! photos are totally unedited.

the only downside I can think of is the dial applicator. you'd have to twist the other end of the stick to push the liquid out. so u don't exactly have perfect control of how much u want to push out. the first time I used it, I keep twisting it becos nothing came out and suddenly, BLOBBBBB.

I also purchased the Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation in Warm Golden. it's on discount now at Guardian for $21.90 from the usual $29.90 :)

and...

Revlon ColorStay Pressed Powder in Medium. on discount now as well at $15.90 (or was it $14.90?) from the usual $19.90.

I can't say much about these products because I haven't tried them at all apart from wildly swatching them at the counters.

anyway, I always tend to get carried away with buying the whole range once I start with one. I seem to always have this perception that the product will only be at its fullest potential if used with the assisting products in the range. may be true or not, whaddya think? :)

I'm currently eying the Revlon Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer. it's in a freakishly small rectangular tube and it cost $28.90. so I'm thoroughly reading reviews on it before making up my mind. or has anyone tried it? do help me with reviews! :) from what I read online, some say it can last 5-7 months cos u don't really need a lot each time u apply. and it has this really nice fragrant to it which I really love! most reviews I read online are of negative feedbacks about the disturbing scent though. so I'm really torn about this :/

or anyone can recommend a good primer from other brands? :)
