Eyes are the windows to the... makeup world.

09Mar10

I was searching for eyeshadow contouring that helps to accentuate your natural features. I sometimes find that when I use a certain technique, like when I apply too much into my outer wing, my eyes end up looking weird, like weirdly-huge kinda weird. so i guess we have to somewhat stick to the right eyeshadow application based on the different eye types that we have more or less.

I find this image helps a lot!

Average: Apply contour along lash line, then along crease for a V-shape. Blend the application. Create a wedge at the outer corner using an accent color. Line upper and lower lashes.

Wide Set: The emphasis is on the inside half of the eye above the crease. Apply contour shade along lash line from inside corner out, then back along crease to inner corner. Add an accent color in a small wedge at outer corner, being careful not to extend beyond the edge. Line upper lashes from corner to corner, adding a little lift at the outside. Line lower lashes and gently smudge.

Close Set: The emphasis is on the out half of the eye. Apply contour shade along lash line and in along crease, starting above outer edge of iris, extending beyond outside corner and up. Blend the application. Make a large wedge at outer corner with the accent color. Line upper lashes from inside edge or iris past outside corner of eye. Emphasize mascara application on outer lashes.

Deep Set: The key is to lessen the shadows on the inside corner and make the brow bone area look less recessed. Apply more base color at the inside corner of the lid. Apply contour shade out along lash line and in along crease, stopping just above th einner edge of the iris. Add a little more color under lower lashes from inside edge of iris to outer corner. Add accent color lightly along crease, blending well. Line upper lashes from inside corner to just past outside corner, lower lashes from outside corner in to just below the pupil, gently smudging.

Prominent Lids: The key is to contour below the crease to draw attention away from how much lid is exposed and to emphasize the upper lash line. Add contour shade over entire eye socket, blending carefully. Apply accent color along lash line from inside corner to slightly past outside corner, then in below crease instead of along it. Line upper lashes from inside corner out, with the line getting thicker at the outside corner. Line lower lashes, then gently smudge upper and lower line application.

Hooded Lids: The key is to use color to make it seem as though more of the lid is showing. Apply contour shade on lid from corner to corner, extending slightly above crease, and under lower lashes, working from outside corner to inside edge of iris. Apply accent color close to lash line above center of pupil and blend outward. Line upper lashes corner to corner, lower lashes from outside corner to inside of iris.

mine looks like a cross between Average and Wide-set. I hope this helps in someways :) so what's your eye type?

incase you dunno what are the exact definitions, here you go.

but I do not agree with the first eye description that almond eyes can carry off any eye technique! I think almost everyone has almond eyes. but, it also depends on your eyelids! those with a less prominent (or narrow) double eyelid or none at all, should apply the base colour above the crease. if not when your eyes are opened, your lid colour will be totally hidden! that's not subtlety, that's wrong technique.

I still have yet to get a good crease brush that I really like. I don't fancy the ones I have. any suggestions? I got my 8pc Artistry Brush set just a few days ago from magical tannsu, shall review it some other day :)

InStyle Tips, The Face Shop Nail Color & Bday Gifts!

06Feb10

so like I said the other time, I was gonna post snap shots of makeup tricks right out of InStyle magazine. here they are :) I ranked them according to my most fave find first!

Jan 2010 US issue Pg 126-129

these tips are from top US professional makeup artists for runway models so if u're going for an edgy, dramatic look, go for it! though I must say that tip #1 and #3 are subtle enough to be used as a normal everyday wear ;)

on another note, I recently bought a new nail polish from The Face Shop. it's a nice electric blue with subtle glitters in it. I dunno how new this range is, but I'm sure they only brought it in, at most, 2 months back. this new range has more of a disco vibe - electric purples, golds, etc. and I love that the glitter is not overwhelming at all. retails at the usual $2.90 each :)

in BL607

I can't entirely capture its perfect bluish glitter on my digicam, so u've to see the range for urself!

bought these for my darling bestfriend's advanced birthday gift, all in a cute little pink box. I'm not gonna list down whatever's in this photo. just ask me if u wanna know? :)

hehehe, my happy bean :)
