Quick Swatch/Review: NYX Mosaic Powder & Round Lipsticks

14Mar11

For this entry, I'll be providing swatch/review for the NYX items (pronounced as Niks according to Greek mythology), which I got during a flea, as mentioned in my previous post.

I've always liked the round lipsticks as they are moisturizing, needless to say AFFORDABLE at $4-5 each. But they lack the staying power as I find it's too glossy and will 'slide off' the lips easily. But, blotting with a tissue, reapplying and then blotting again really does a HUGE favour to these lippies.

These are the three shades I got:

On to the lip swatches. Note: I had really bad eye bags the day I took these photos and I didn't wanna trouble myself with concealers. So excuse the shades! But feel free to laugh :p

Heredes

I like Heredes the best out of the three. My go-to colour has always been this kind of orange-coralish shades anyway. Heredes is a close dupe of my favourite Stage Passion Punch, but slightly oranger, PP is redder.

Indian Pink

Indian Pink is such an intriguing colour that I feel it deserves an indoor and outdoor picture! It's a soft pink shade with bright orange undertones, making it very reflective and looks a different colour at different angles. It also gives an illusion of fuller lips ;) but it isn't an easy shade to carry! I'm still searching for complementary blush/eyeshadow combo to go along with this.

Mars

Mars is an MLBB shade for me (my lips but better). Not much to say about this one!

My NYX round lipstick collection (swatches)

Indian Pink is captured to its truest form here! My faves of the lot are Paris, Louisiana and Heredes.

Mosaic Powder in 05 Champagne

Champagne is a nice orangey shade with micro shimmers. The texture is really soft and very pigmented. I love using this as an eyeshadow too! I don't have anything bad to say about this blush. This range has a wide variety too so you can pick whichever colour to suit your purpose - highlighter, blush, bronzer etc. But I think this would be a little too shimmery to make a nice bronzer. Sidenote: Makeupalley rated this 4.2/5.0.

No cheek swatches for this, but I will get to that when I do a LOTD post. Till then! :)

NYX Haul: Cheapest Price

16Jul10

these came in the mail today:)

Round Lipsticks: Louisiana, Femme ($5.50 each)
For Your Eyes Only eyeshadow palette for Blue Eyes ($13.90)

I ordered two eyeshadow bases as well, but they were OOS when I ordered, but it's already been mailed out to me now so I'll probably be getting it sometime next week.

I got these online from a local blogshop: smoochiezz . the shop carries highly-raved Elf products too at super low prices. click here for the direct link to the NYX instock page. Hazel, the owner, just brought in the new, requested NYX items and there's a whole variety to choose from. p/s: I owe the thanks to a friend of mine (I think she rather not be named) for alerting me to the nyx instock items! :)

so back to the items! I'm only providing swatches becos I haven't tried them properly to review anything.

Round lipsticks

these lip swatches are after blotting with tissue paper cos that's how I'm planning to wear for these two - the colours are super intense surprisingly (as seen in the swatches above). totally not for everyday way unless I blot them.

Louisiana

Femme

I expected Femme to be more dark coral rather than a bright orangey-red! I'll probably have to layer it with a coloured lipgloss to tone down the colour. I predict I'll be using more of Louisiana, but I already have a lot of this similar colour in my stash! :p shall take a picture of my bright pink lipsticks collection one day.

For Your Eyes Only Palette for Blue Eyes

this range has one for brown eyes, green eyes and a smokey look. of course I don't have blue eyes, but I was just attracted to the individual colours on this palette! especially the rust colour (bottom row, centre) which makes a great crease colour!

I'm lovin' all the colours on the bottow row. will do a LOTD with this palette soon and hopefully squeeze in a review too, keep reading! :)

NYX Pinks

09Apr10

I ordered a couple of NYX lip products last week from The Spectrum Shop. I believe the blog shop is run by a guy known as Dennis. he seems like such a nice person becos I was super late to meet him and he was being entirely nice about it :) very efficient and professional with replying to emails too.

NYX Megashine Lip Gloss in Beige and NYX Round Lipstick in Paris

the above picture is more true to the colour compared to the one below (yellow lighting).

thanks to my bff for hand-modelling for me ;)

and on my lips. left: Beige; Right: Paris

I know Beige looks really sheer on me, but trust me, it's really creamy and pigmented. it's just too similar to the undertones of my lip colour, thus the colour turned out sheer for me (in photographs at least). but I love the glassy look it gives to the lips!

application is smooth and easy. and I super love the smell. ohhh cherries! I wonder if all of the Mega Shine smells the same? but the gloss has a tendency to streak, especially at your cupid's bow. so you have to be mindful to apply under good lighting to ensure that you don't leave the house with ugly streaks on ur lips!

just a note here. do check swatches of NYX lip glosses on youtube first before buying. They have a huge array, but it depends on which type of gloss you are looking for - pigmented, sheer, glitter, sheen. a few people I know regretted buying the sheer ones when they wanted a more pigmented colour. the colours all seriously look equally pigmented (just like most lip glosses of other brands as well) in the gloss tube, but they are not. you can try watching from Thefashionmaven's channel, she provides really good swatches and detailed descriptions :)

For Paris, I've no idea why in pictures it looks a pale purplish colour. I believe it's due to the blue undertones of Paris that shows under camera flash. In person, it's more of a youthful, candy pastel pink. okay, even this picture doesn't do justice its pretty colour!

the round lipsticks doesn't smell as nice. it reminds me of some exotic-brand hair oil, u know the green liquid one? but u can only smell it when u apply, u won't have whiffs of it afterwards. but it glides on really well, really pigmented and superbly easy to apply. I dunno how many times I applied it on a moving vehicle without the aid of a mirror.

I've been using them everyday since I got them, can't you already tell how much I love these buys? :) and I got both for $13.80 only! am definitely buying more from this range!
