LOTD: Classy Twist

28Aug11

I've been wearing a lot of this look, just switching up the colours on my waterline for that pop of colour. For this particular look that I photographed, I had purple on (UD's 24/7 Liner in Ransom). This eyeshadow look is very versatile. It looks nice with electric blue, lime green or just brown.

I would say that this classic eyeshadow look is like the "french manicure to your eyes" - minimalist, polished and never go out of style ;) And the "twist" I was referring to in the title, is that pop of purple! I'm sure you've already gotten it by now & I'm just rambling unneccessarily... :p

These are the base products I used, and currently in love with at the mo. The two products on the right are: Proof 10 Eye Primer & L'oreal True Match Concealer (the fonts have rubbed off after so long! hahah). I am excited to review the Baby Bloom Makeup Base from Holika Holika (extreme left), but I'll save that for another entry!

I used my 88 warm palette for this eye look, E.l.f studio blush in Peachy Keen & Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Fuschia. The rest are my staple items.

And matchy matchy nails! The Face Shop BK902.

I didn't paint this on especially to match my dress. I had it on for quite some time, hence the chipping. And I figured it so easy to get perfectly square nails - just use a toe clipper! I've heard about that tip before, but I never knew it makes so much difference compared to using the regular, smaller clippers for fingernails. So I never bothered buying! But you should try it, it cuts straighter!

Hope you have had a good weekend & ready to start a brand new week! I'm excited for raya! :) Have a good week all!

LOTD: Smokey Rust + Outfit of the day

31May11

Got the 88 Warm Palette at home? This is an eyeshadow look you can try! I don't usually use much of this palette (except the highlight & taupe colours), but since I'm in a earthy-neutrals phase... I've been reaching out for it almost everyday. I forgot how versatile and pigmented this palette of eyeshadows are!

I used this with UD Primer potion. Tip: If you don't have any primers, this eyeshadow works really well with a damp brush too! The colours become so intense, even more than with a primer. I didn't experience much creasing with the wet brush method, but that depends on the oiliness of your lids.

Love that the brassy gold (sheen) makes my eyes pop without being overwhelming. Sometimes dark, solid eyeshadows can make your eyes look one-dimensional and therefore, flat. And the darker crease colour (black with gold microglitters) still brings out the sultriness of the look.

This is my 88 palette which I got early last year. I have the Original Palette too, hence the need for labelling. And I like to label my stuff, anyway :p The cover looks so scratchy, but inside... IT'S PRISTINE.

1. Base colour -> 2. Crease colour -> 3. Blending colour (soften the edges). Apply No. 1 to your lower lash line too :)

Again, I'm using the non-Outer V technique. I find this method creates a much softer look for me and it saves a lot of time actually :) You can probably create this look with the Original palette too, but their variations of golds and blacks are limited.

Other products used:

L'oreal HiP Mascara (bought from local blogshop, not available in Sg)

E.l.f Bronzing powder in Luminance

MAC Peachy Keen blush

Can't recall which lipstick I wore :(

The rest are my usual staple items.

And my OOTD. This is my second time wearing this LBD cos I didn't have any other occassion to wear it. But I threw on a cropped sweater for a more modest, casual look since I was just going to town. Love the bow detail across the chest. And the hem ends at mid-thigh. I need to take full-length photos in future!

One last thing, Sasa is having a sale again at Northpoint. I think probably a lot of places too since the GSS is here. So I stocked up on face masks. Bought 4-5 of each packs. I should have enough masks to last me for a while, hahah. I've only tried the blue one (milk mask) so far. Lovin' it.

If you realised, all the masks are whitening masks! I'm on a whitening care phase, obviously :p And currently, I'm trying out this new Papaya soap too for my face and body. Papaya is known for it's effective, whitening properties. Will update you on how that works for me!

Talk to you soon!

LOTD: Smog that Suspect!

28May11

This EOTD would be classified as "Syidah's safest bet". It's practically the colours I use when I want colours on my eyes, but can't decide what. You can never go wrong with browns, especially in summery Singapore! And I love this look becos it can pass off as casual or classy at the same time, depending on what you dress up in. I was going for the casual look for a Saturday day out with girlfriends.

Simple, just a base colour and crease colour. I find outer-Vs make me look older/fiercer, or is it just me?

Makeup used:

UDPP

Urban Decay NYC Eyeshadow Palette (Suspect & Smog)

Maybelline Stiletto Mascara

Maybelline Watershine Lipstick in PR31

MAC Peachy Keen Blusher

The rest are pretty much my staple items:

Maybelline Angelfit Pore Zero Base

Maybelline BB Cream

Maybelline Clear Smooth Face Powder

Maybelline Studio Gel Liner in Black

The Face Shop Glamax Liquid Liner

(I find it redundant to always list down my staples! Next time, I'll just refer to this as "the usual staple items". Hopefully people will remember? :p)

My hair is undone yet btw in the pictures. In future, I should remember to do my hair up first THEN take pictures instead of always showing you my wet hair :p

Have a good Sunday y'all!

Quick LOTD: Black & Gold

06May11

Hello all :)

This is actually a continuation from my previous post! So I'm not gonna elaborate much, just pictures here. I recreated the same look, but a more intense version. It really is a flattering look for glasses. Love it!

LOTD: Cut-crease (Fake the double eyelid!)

05May11

Gotta credit Cheryl for this inspiration cos she posted up Michelle Phan's video on Sexy Glasses makeup. Cheryl did her take on makeup for glasses too, you can read her post here :)

I followed as close as possible to what Michelle did, except that I left out the white marking lines and the more well-defined crease cut that stretches much more inward. If I sound like I'm talking gibberish, you need to watch the video!

I did a much more toned down version cos I was just going around my neighbourhood mall. But I will definitely attempt the full-on cut-crease soon! I really love this cat-eye look a lot. The gold and black also makes the look classy.

The cut-crease look gives the impression of a double eyelid. So you don't have to trouble yourself with the glue and tucking in of your lids (looks uncomfy!). I already have double eyelids, but I love how the cut-crease further accentuates them!

And a picture with my glasses! I didn't actually wear them out though, already had my contact lens in.

Okay, that's all for this post. Thanks for dropping by!

GG's Blair & Serena LOTD

29Apr11

I'm sure when I say GOSSIP GIRL, the popular U.S TV hit series is synonymous to almost every girl. I don't wish to be catty like the characters or lead their socialite lifestyles. But I love the storyline and the great actors. Plus, the girls always have beautiful hair, makeup and clothes. We can all agree on that ;)

So I did my own take of Blair's and Serena's look - just makeup alone, not the hair or clothes. Cos I don't have them fab curls, hahah.

Let's ogle at the actresses first :)

Blair Waldorf

Blair almost always wear a clean look - neutral contoured eyes, peachy blusher and contoured cheeks and glossy lips.

The version I created is more wearable becos the actual actresses need to wear thicker makeup so it'll show on camera/TV.

I probably shouldn't have mascara-ed my lower lashes, cos it's a bit much even for Blair. The only reason why I wasn't smiling in the pics is because Blair always looks so pensive and troubled, hahah.

And now Serena Van der Woodsen!

Serena is every bit the sunshine girl - browns and golds for the eyes, loads of mascara, glossy coral lips and a bronzed and perfectly highlighted face.

So did I nailed it or screwed it? I think I did The Blair Waldorf better. The Serena somehow looks like my everyday look! :(

I'm planning to do a Jenny Humphrey kohl-rimmed eyes look too - now that I have the same hair length as her, maybe it'll be a closer resemblance? :p If you're wondering, Blair is my favourite character cos she's so witty and hilarious!

LOTD: Electric Sheen

16Jun10

in my most recent entry on the L'oreal True Match blusher, I was asking for eyeshadow suggestions to pair up with this "difficult" blusher. Amyrleex commented that I should try either a matte dark grey or matte dark blue. so I took the cue from her to try the blues and here's the LOTD :) thanks babe!

the eye look is not entirely a dead matte. some of the pigments I used has micro glitters in it, but very minimal.

I used both the Original 88-palette, Warm 88-palette and Proof 10 Eye Primer for this look.

few things I learnt (from my own trial-and errors hahaha):

1) when dealing with highly glittery blushers, just apply on the apples of ur cheeks.

2)  when using dark eyeshadow looks, ensure that ur dark rings are concealed well! dark eyeshadows will only bring more attention to the eyes.

3) for my eyes, I feel that it's best if I use white-based eyeshadows as my highlight colour when I have dark eyeshadows on so that the eyes look more lifted. dark eyeshadows can sometimes make the eyes appear heavy :(

4) and I read that in some magazines that u shouldn't use glittery eyeshadows as ur highlight colour? WHAT NONSENSE! I think with dark eyeshadows, slightly glittered highlights make it look better in fact! as long as it's not over the top and screaming for attention away from ur lid colour.

then again, there are no rules when it comes to MU! :p

thanks for reading!

Pearl Drops Whitening Experiment

09Jun10

I'm on a teeth-whitening experiment! if u read my previous post, I recently bought the Pearl Drops Teeth Whitener. I've used it before few years ago and I remember it being good, but I can't remember what exactly. so now, for the sake of my bad memory, I will record this process! :) the Pearl Drops assures that users can clearly see the difference in 3 weeks.

from the packaging:

Pearl Drops is a specialist tooth whitener that helps restore the natural whiteness and shine of your teeth. The clinically proven formula contains Blue beauty pearls for soft, gentle and effective cleaning.

the box also provides a Whitening Guide tab to monitor the changes of your teeth. love this bit!

This teeth whitener is used in place of your regular toothpaste. okay, before I go to the picture, let me warn that if you have extreme disgust of teeth, please skip this bit :p

I'm currently at the 9 on the scale I think?

I don't really have any issues with my teeth, haha, but no harm in trying to make it whiter right ;) I've always been obsessed with teeth products anyway. I do have sensitive gums though, which is a bummer becos my gums tend to bleed a lot when I brush. ok, let's skip the gross part :p

so yes, I'll be posting pictures of my progress with the Pearl Drops at the end of each week all the way to the third week, and we'll compare! let's put their 3-week theory to the test ;) hopefully my teeth will be 1 on the scale!

thanks for reading (this utterly gross entry heee).

Hair job and Mermaid Green LOTD

02May10

hahaha at my meek attempt at a teaser in the previous entry :p I actually didn't get extensions done, my bff did though! but yes, that was me in the picture but with clip on synthetic extensions instead!

I know it looks long, but isn't even the full length of my hair. probably just above the chest - this is if I clip it mid-way down my crown.

left: back (clip side); right: front

so sorry the 2nd picture the camera auto-focused on my finger instead! I just realised :/

the red doesn't look this orangey, flaming red though. the first picture is more true to the colour in real life. I think I've mentioned before that I wanted to get these clip-ons. I really love auburn/copper red hair, but too bad red dye will fade to browns. that was what happened to my red braided extensions btw. they are still on my hair now, but barely visible. I'll post pictures of them tmr or the day after :)

thus, I figured clip-ons are rather practical cos it won't fade!

and the rouge-coloured one in the teaser pic is a clip-on too, which I didn't buy. it's so niceee, but I'm just worried that I won't wear it if I buy it. I'd wear it, of course, but more of getting bored of it after a while. hence.

it's $18 per clip-on at fep :) if u're wondering which exact shop it is, do comment and I'll PM you :)

anyway, here's my best friend getting her blonde extensions done. I think it's a dirty blonde tone? definitely not platinum.

she's now complaining that her hair is frizzy! hahaha. GO APPLY BUCKETLOADS OF SERUM! she opted for the non-rebonded strands, so it is harder to maintain, in a way? but I think it's nicer than the straight ones! she did the braiding + clip method and there's a total of 33 bunches on her hair. hehe niceeee I feel so tempted to go crazy with my hair now.

and last but not least, the LOTD I had on :) haha this yellow-green look reminds me of a mermaid! thus the cheesy title :p

I'm still not used to wearing nude lips out! so I changed to something more tinted halfway :)

and my eyeshadow actually stayed on until the end of the day! this is the 88-palette. I didn't even use any primer, but I remember packing the pigments with a really damp brush. but of course, it inevitably creases. but not as much as when I apply it dry.

9 hours later:

alright, thanks for reading all!

LOTD: Electric Blue (Teal?)

23Apr10

I'm beginning to love E.l.f Studio's Corrector quad. it helps to moisturize the eye area so my concealer doesn't crease or appear dry. I didn't do any editing, just adjusted the contrast to make the colours more apparent. and with the use of 3 different types of concealers (the E.l.f corrector being one), I managed to conceal my dark circles! I will usually hate how dry my under eye area looks when I apply too much concealer, but the E.l.f corrector help to moisten it and give that dewy look :)

haven't really been using this since I got it a month ago becos I didn't like it initially. but it grew on me, and I'm starting to like it.

I used the green and salmon coloured ones for my undereyes, green for the areas around my nose and lavender for my nose bridge, chin and brow bone. it does provide that sheer, illuminating effect that reflects light and give the fresh look. I'll only use this when I have time though, it's like a whole extra step if u wanna do tone correcting.

if u want a proper proper review of the E.l.f Studio Corrector, do let me know babes! becos there's a couple of downsides to this product too. since I'm mainly doing a LOTD entry, I shall not delve too much into the review.

and the "wind effect" is due to me standing at the side of my fan in an attempt of an artistic shot! HAHAHHAH. Pass/Fail? :p and centre-parting fringe ftw! I have no exact parting to my hair actually, but my fringe will always fall apart at the centre I have no idea why la. haha.

Splash's Teal pigment on eyes, Maybelline's Pure Mineral Blusher in True Peach on cheeks and Maybelline's Color Sensational in Toffee Cream on lips. the rest of the routine is pretty much what I use on a regular basis which I have already mentioned before in the past entries.

thanks for reading! :)
